If you want to be a cartoonist, you have to do the work: you can’t just talk about your characters and plot, and research endlessly.
You can tell someone, “Oh, comics aren’t just for kids any more, they’re the real deal,” and then they’re like, “Okay, what can I read?” And you give them Maus, and maybe you give them Ghost World… and then there’s not that much.
If people just want to do comics because they want attention and be loved, then they should go into filmmaking, go into another medium, or work in an advertising agency.
